YOUR SURVIVAL GUIDE TO EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO THINK ABOUT IF YOU WANT TO BECOME AN ACTOR AND MODEL IN NEW YORK CITY
You can start a career in acting with this business master class. You will be taught how to break into the business and make money while you're at it! I'll show up anywhere, digitally that is anytime just so I could help someone build their own empire through story telling through movement or expression--whether you want to be an actor on screen; model/actress behind closed doors (literally); TV personality anything's possible when dreaming big.
IS IT A DREAM OR REALITY TO BECOME BOTH A FAMOUS ACTOR & MODEL?
Acting and modeling are two things that many young people dream of doing. Kids want to be on T.V., in movies, or on the runway when they grow up. Although it seems like an impossible task, becoming an actor or model is not as hard as you think! If you could be either one which one would you be? Good question, right? Actor or Model? Let me input a new idea into your mind... Why Not Both? The key reason why you should become both an actor and model is that you can book both acting jobs and modeling jobs. You can increase your job opportunities that way, you can diversify your portfolio. Leading to more acting opportunities. While gaining more modeling experience. Therefore increasing your chances to book a variety of work and not solely dependent on one source of income in your career. You will have many means of payment that you can now use to grow your career. So that's when one career path is slow, the other will be abundant. For now, we're going to separate acting and modeling for a moment to get clear about how each area works.
BEFORE BECOMING AN ACTOR & BOOKING YOUR FIRST ACTING JOB, MANY ASPIRING ACTORS NEED TO KNOW THIS
With so many actors dying for attention in Hollywood, it's important that you have an edge. Take notes of these areas to be sure you get the upper hand! Your acting ability is just part become a successful actor or actress. Actors and models need professional headshots in order to get a talent agent and their names out there. These photos will be used for casting calls , theater auditions, your acting resume and soo much more so they must look good! But there is so much more that is even more important. Like practice and improving on your craft, and knowing your personal brand they say practice makes perfect. I say practice cant make perfect if there is no stage to perform. You might not think that rehearsing or "prep" would help you land roles but it does wonders when you have to start acting. Not only that it helps any professional actor you feel more confident and prepared in general. Head over to the library or local drama book shop and spend some time practicing different monologues from famous plays, smaller off-broadway titles, as well as scenes from scripts of commercials, tv, and famous movies. This will give you a good idea of what they're looking for at auditions and improve various acting techniques without going to acting school. Also interning at various casting offices, community theater groups, musical theater repertoire, and other industry Networks with other actors or crew members who can show you the inside working of the entertainment industry.
HOW DO ACTORS GET PAID IN THEIR ACTING CAREER?
ACTING JOBS! When you start your acting career initially, many questions come up about how actors get paid in their acting careers. Are they getting paid? How much are they making for each project? Are they being underpaid or overworked? These questions can be answered when you have a basic understanding of an actor's job and what goes into it. Actors need to understand exactly how this industry works to better prepare themselves financially for any opportunity that arises. We're talking about industry experience! Most actors will find themselves doing commercial work that pays well but only lasts a day or two at most when starting out. They may also be working on small-budget movies where the pay isn't great but sometimes provides experience on set. For me, tv projects came later in my acting career after I booked some more auditions in the commercial print world. Then my talent agent started sending me out for lead roles in more major film box office hits like Star Wars. But for many new actors and working actors, the order does not define success.
OTHER KINDS OF ACTING AUDITIONS I SHOULD THINK ABOUT
As a good actor in the show business, you will go to many kinds of acting auditions, for movies, T.V., and commercials. But when we talk about commercials, you have a lot more models going for commercial auditions than many aspiring actors, but we'll get into that a little bit later. Besides movies, commercials, T.V., you also have voiceover talent and numerous new areas nowadays. From voiceover to CGI, where you can animate and create the mannerisms of a specific character for film and T.V., even gaming. I believe it's called Motion Capture; voiceover animation, celebrity voiceover, voiceover commercial, voiceover for gaming, voiceover narratives, and promos. Puppeteering, and a lot of different areas in the voiceover world.
ACTORS MUST BE ABLE TO CHANGE AND MOLD AND ADAPT, RIGHT?
RIGHT. IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT THEY HAVE TO BE ABLE TO ADAPT BECAUSE THE AUDIENCE CHANGES ALL THE TIME, AND SO DOES THEIR RESEARCH ON PEOPLE YOU ARE BRINGING TO LIFE - As an actor or an artist, you're in a constant state of performing. Performance enlivens life, and it can be the difference between success and failure for actors or artists alike! The anxiety and pressure that come with performing can be overwhelming. You're on stage, facing an audience who is either going to love what you do or hate it - but they'll never know unless you show it! Explore the different ways actors prepare for their roles so as not only to feel confident in front of casting. Using some tools like meditation techniques may help manage those nerves when things get too intense outside...No one is perfect, and you can’t always be “ON” all the time. Sometimes not using the mood that you are already in can be your downfall if you are not careful HOW you use them as well as what ends up coming out at any given moment (including post-production). SO ITS IMPORTANT TO LEARN HOW TO USE THOSE OUTSIDE MOMENTS.
LET'S TALK ABOUT ACTING CLASSES
Aspiring actors, here are the basics of getting started in acting?
So you are ready to take the leap and become an actor or model? One of the most successful models in history, Tyra Banks, once said "If you can see it in your mind, believe it will happen. If you believe it will happen, have patience and work hard for it." To achieve success as a model or actor, specific steps must be taken. These steps include formal training, like acting classes/training programs, and building your portfolio. Let's dive in deeper! The qualifications needed to become a performer are pretty much awareness of self and confidence. If you lack confidence, GOOD LUCK! A little trick that comes in handy is the ability to act like you have confidence like me. Having some training helps, do keep in mind here are some people who are naturals, you might be one of those people. None the less training is ideal for acting.
These are all forms of formal education training you can do as an actor. As an actor, you can have many more training tools underneath your belt. There are some examples of training courses you can do here in NYC. Casting Studios like one-on-one studies here in New York City offers private competitive classes taught by industry casting directors, producers, talent managers, and agents. You can learn at conservatory programs like the New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts, where they cover all aspects of performing arts. Bite-size classes with individuals can be less costly, or you can even get a coach. I talked a bit about schools in my full course in my career jumpstart guide for actors and models, so I'm not going to go too deep there; I already mentioned conservatories, where you can get a full breakdown and education on everything that you need to know about acting from voice and speech to comedy, improv, film, and T.V., to movement and body awareness, Shakespeare to the technical parts that come from performing for T.V., Theater, and film. You will get access to all this information and various areas when you go to school, a conservatory program, or even a short summer program, which NYCDA offers.
HONE YOUR PERFORMING ARTS SKILLS, PICK UP SOME MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
As an actor, a lot more is expected of you actors who have singing, dancing, skills like longboarding, roller skating, other creative skills, or athletic skills become more attractive. Your skills become an asset to you in the audition room. Know that your skills definitely raise your value, and the more that you can do or the quality of which you can do things at can present itself as a door into the industry, especially if you're really good at that one thing. I just want to make sure you know that you don't need multiple talents as long as you're good at one thing.
THE WORLD OF MODELING
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO ADD MODEL NEXT TO ACTOR?
WHAT ARE THE BASICS TO BECOMING THE TOP MODELS BOOKING?
It's important to know what kind of path lies ahead for those who want to pursue modeling. Becoming a model is no easy task, and it requires a lot of hard work and dedication. "You may be wondering what modeling is all about. Many models are wondering the same thing. Most models don't realize it's not just walking down a runway for fashion shows; it can take many forms. There are plus-sized models, commercial models. You could be a new model who becomes the face of an advertisement ( print ad ), or you might appear in T.V. shows and movies." I want you to know booking a fashion show is just one part of it.
MENTAL HEALTH FOR MODELS FOR A LONG HEALTH CAREER
The is an area I don't think anyone really truly considers. Your mental and emotional health. As a model, you have many tasks to complete to be successful. The hardest part of being a model is staying true to yourself and your values. If you are not happy with any part of the modeling industry, it will show up on camera or in photos. I want to share some tips for success as a model so that you can make the most out of any opportunity!
Stay healthy by eating well, exercising regularly, and getting a therapist.
Be confident about who you are; never compare yourself to others because everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses.
Work on positive self-talk and positive body image.
Always stay active on social media because tomorrow, even if no one is watching right now! There is always an opportunity to be discovered, so be open-minded when posting content too.
It's all about looks.
Aspiring models and seasoned models should learn the basics of finding jobs and getting started in modeling by researching different types of modeling jobs. You'll also need to decide if you want to pursue print work or other opportunities. This is so important because some models are not mentally, emotionally, or physically ready for the demands of certain aspects of the industry.
Models often need to have natural beauty; not much is needed so they can pose for ads and commercials that give people the feeleez. They might also need some extra skills like acting or dancing talents that will help them get castings. "Keep these NOTES in mind while exploring this field!”
Modeling focuses on how you currently look if you naturally fit the brand or company's narrative already. You don't have to create anything as actors do. They look at you as a person first, then decide the model they are looking for and how you fit the brand's image. You should already represent whatever they stand for without any major adjustments or changes. SO?!? Do you still even want to be a model? Do you have the correct height, weight and look for it? These are all critical questions to ask yourself before getting started. This is what it takes to truly get started! You're not the only one not asking these questions! So that's why I want you to be the most prepared one. There is a lot of confusion around becoming a model, and I hope our blogs can help clear some things up. We will be touching on key areas from what types of models there are, how much they make, and even how many hours they work on average per day. I hope this has been an informative read that will give you all the information you need to know before starting your journey into the modeling world!
HOW DO MODELS GET PAID?
The life of a model is one that many dreams about. You get to travel the world, be pampered and admired by people everywhere you go. But what do models really get paid for all their hard work? $0-$100,000 very often, most models are not making $100,000 per job. It might not be as glamorous as it seems at first glance. As a model, you have various areas of the modeling world you can work in. You have commercial print, which you see on billboards and catalogs for Target, and other similar brands. Then you have high fashion, which is runaway, editorial fashion bookings, "FIT" here are two forms of "FIT. " There's "FIT" where you are pretty much a mannequin for the designer. You try on clothes, which goes on their website, or you're trying on clothes so they can see how it fits on real people, so they make adjustments accordingly. Then you have "FIT, which is fitness, you're modeling for fitness companies, yoga, boxing, running, and all different kinds of fitness apparel brands, even bodybuilding, which will likely be used in commercial print work. Then you have what is called commercial print, and broadcasting which is more on camera like print, but on video, still modeling. It's more like how you see the models in target video advertisements. Casting directors, commercial directors, and producers tend to mix a few actors and models for broadcasting advertising. So these are just some areas in the modeling industry. Let's get into runway!
WALK THE THE FASHION SHOWROOM CATWALK
For fashion runway modeling, you have showroom. Example of this you will find in the real world is Abercrombie and Fitch may hire you to go to the showroom for the day where you just stand in the like a living mannequin for people at special events wearing the clothing, and you pretty much just standstill being pretty. So I think we covered many of the main areas you can be paid to model. When you add all of these together, you can really set yourself up to be in a state of consistently working versus waiting for one job in one area once or twice a month. Would it not be nice to never have to be pigeonholed into one box or stressed that you are not getting work for Fashion, Print, T.V., ETC. . YES, YOU CAN! You can build out your income streams as an artist using your image with a clear business strategy.
Bi*** Better Have My Money Talent Agents Cut
Being a model is not all glitz and glamour; many aspects of the job are often overlooked. For one, models have to work with agencies to get jobs. Agencies take 15% commission from their clients when they book them for employment. Then takes out an additional 20% for taxes on top of that percentage leaving only 65% of what the client pays you to go towards your paycheck. However, some agencies will offer "Special" contracts which allow you it get first dips on booking at a cost. It usually comes with other stipulations, such as exclusivity or no outside work allowed without permission from the agency.
WHERE CAN YOU LEARN THE BASICS OF GETTING STARTED AS A MODEL
It's challenging to get started as a model in new york. Some of the world's most elite models like Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, and Kate Moss will tell you it's not an easy task. But if you're willing to put in the work, then there are plenty of ways that you can improve your chances. You can have some of the most powerful agencies in new york knocking on your door. To make that happen, you need the right mindset about yourself as a model. It takes confidence and determination—two things, so many women and men lack or have never had before starting out in the competitive fashion industry. Modeling really does take dedication, time, energy, patience, commitment, and strength because it means putting yourself out there for critique from agency representation, potential clients, new models, fellow female models, etc. Are you ready for that kind of judgment? Honestly, it's not a bad thing, and you don't have to put up with any of it if you don't want to. That's why it never hurts to take a class where you learn how to walk or have a coach teach you how to prepare for commercial modeling. Don't worry; if you don't have that kind of money, you can watch YouTube videos to teach yourself how to walk as you would in modeling classes. That is, if you are going the fashion route or commercial modeling, learning how to pose in front of the camera can go a long way. Commercial modeling is very different from fashion modeling work, very different. There are so many additional tips and tricks that make shoots run more smoothly for you and the production team if you know what you are doing. This will definitely lead to more reoccurring bookings, and let me tell you, word spreads FAST.
EVEN FASHION MODELS NEED OTHER SKILLS | ALTON MASON SUPERMODEL
Even models like Alton Mason can do flips and other spectacular things that nature. This is especially rare for male models as their poses have been very bland and basic, but over time poses have become more flexible and diversified. In short, the more skills you have, the more you are training yourself, your body, your mind to contort, move and express life, the higher value you become as an actor or a model.
ARE MODELING MODEL SCHOOLS NECESSARY NEW FACE MODELS
Fashion modeling can be a hard place to map out because you essentially have nothing because you never have much confidence or knowledge in what agencies want or lack. There is a little skepticism about modeling school, from my perspective. The best classes are helpful when teaching poise and body awareness for the runway. But that as far as they have gone in my experience. If you want a chance to become a professional fashion or commercial model, then developing skills as audition actors do is one way of gaining a competitive edge over the competition. ------
DON'T SPEND MONEY ON EXPENSIVE PHOTOSHOOTS
How much should I be spending on my photoshoots for my portfolio?
If it's the first time you are starting in the modeling world, your first photography shouldn't be a bank-breaking investment. All those agencies and scout needs are simply snapshots. They look at your natural looks. You do not need makeup if you do use basic makeup. No heavy, crazy makeup! Depending upon your potential, a photographer might suggest you invest in a professionally shot to enhance your looks and market value. Some agencies might even allow you to pay for your photography if they have photographers booked in-house to help streamline your modeling career.
Something that will help with your photoshoots, for example, is the different ways to look at the camera. You should consider having this frame of mind "how can I help the photographer get the best shot" instead of the ego aspect where the sole focus is on the actors and models. New inexperienced models start with one pose and jump to a completely different one. Instead of "working the clock," "working the clock means you're slowly moving clockwise or counterclockwise. If you start with your face towards the right, you shouldn't just jump immediately turn left. Go slow from right, down like a clock, looking at all the different angles while holding that one pose structure till you find yourself at the left of your body. This allows the photographer to get various shots and decide which one works best in the same pose. This will make you come across more professional; you know, Okay, I'm going to hold this pose and change my facial expression and body angles slightly, then change my body entirely to a different pose. Which will give the photographer or whoever's editing the shots a variety of angles and find which one works perfectly with that pose. So knowing that is really important.
Now when you're walking the runway, it's essential to know how to walk the runway, where you need to turn, how to lean back, roll back the shoulders to make the clothes fit better, How to hold your head, ect.
WHERE DO I GO FOR AUDITIONS
Knowing where to go for auditions, is important, knowing who you can trust and who you can't trust is a lot just as important. These are all essential things your schools will generally help with; well, I know NYCDA did. Here is a place to start 👉🏼 ACTORSACCESS MORE TOOLS ON MY ACTING & MODELING MASTERCLASS
Ohhh, wait there’s more! I got you covered! There are tons of reputable casting call websites out there that you can sign up for free and get access to the latest auditions. One website that I recommend is Casting Networks. Not only do they post daily calls, but they also give you the chance to upload your reels, headshots, and resumes. This way, you increase your chances of being noticed by agents, producers, and directors. And the best part? You'll get notifications straight to your email inbox about the latest casting calls. So don't wait, start auditioning today!
Mistakes I made When Entering an Audition Room
As a model, you want to be prepared for everything that may come your way. An essential part of this is knowing how to conduct yourself in an audition room or go-see. This includes knowing what mistakes are commonly made when entering the casting room or going on a go-see.
Knowing what might happen during an audition can help prepare models for anything they encounter at their next audition or go-see. Knowing common mistakes other models make can also help them avoid making those same mistakes themselves and give them more confidence walking into the casting room knowing exactly what to expect.
OPEN CASTING CALLS DON'T ALWAYS GO WELL
"I'm sure you have been on a casting or go-see where the photographer, designer, or client is not impressed by what they see. Maybe it's because you didn't know how to pose, the lighting wasn't right, your makeup was too much for the look of the shoot...etc." I had one lousy go-see that stuck with me even today. When I went to this casting, I forgot I was going in as a fashion model, not a commercial print model. So understanding this and knowing how acting is different than modeling and how you enter the audition room v.s. the casting room is significant, and once you know those dynamics, you can become anything and adjust yourself according to what you're going out for.
So being able to walk is very important; understanding what the vibe is is also very important. There are tons of resources and tools available for any of you to learn those traits or those skills. But overall, again, all this can be discovered via YouTube, so you don't really need to spend any money or anything like that. Some of these courses come with direct connections to people that have been there and have done what you need to. Not only that, they have access to a community rather than you having to learn everything on your own the hard way. So never be afraid to pay for something valuable. I don't know if there's a modeling Bootcamp. I haven't seen one. I'm pretty sure that somewhere online offers that, but you just have to be careful of scams. Again, you can learn all these things on YouTube too.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT A MODEL CASTING CALL?
As a Model, people will ask you at auditions for photos. They will review your pictures and sometimes or videos you have taken. Make sure not to take the outcome of the casting personally as it may affect your career in the long term if you do take it personally. Sometimes their decision has nothing to do with your talent. My first big fashion runway audition was an excellent example of a classic mistake when I went for a casting for Jackthreads tailoring companies. I had been doing commercial prints so much that I forgot that I was going into fashion casting. When I went in, I had a big smile on my face and a bubbly personality that is excellent for commercial print. I walked down to meet the casting directors and the producers for the show, and they were displeased; "why are you doing that? Do you not know how to walk?" And I was shocked! In my head, I was like, "oh shit!"
It's not about having a great smile or showing your bubbly personality, or being corny. When I say corny, I mean goofy with a likable character. Fashion is about, being poise serious, charming, sexy, and confident. So I went back and did "my model walk," which is different from me walking into the audition room as an actor. The walk is very straight, solid face, no smiling and very controlled, even somewhat like a soldier in the military or stoic. Their response was, "why didn't you do that before when you came in the first time?" and it was literally because I hadn't been in a casting for fashion or walking the runway in years.
PREP PREP PREP
To be successful, it's always crucial, that you prep! The biggest thing that many actors do is they don't prepare. They think this industry is luck and chance, and it couldn't be further from the truth. Having a business plan is key to your success. Knowing where you're going and how you're going to get there to some degree is going to help. On the flip, know nothing is actually ever going to go according to plan. But having direction will stop you from hitting a lot of pitfalls that can make you jaded and actually cause you to hate the industry and give up before you actually get your foot in the actual industry door. So having a plan is very important. We discuss a little bit of that in or a lot of that in my career guide for actors and models.
ONLY WORK WITH LEGITIMATE MODELING AGENCIES
When dealing with agents and managers, the percentage of what agents and managers take is also significant. Most people don't talk about learning to identify when someone is trying to scam you and when something is legitimate. You can easily avoid scams and find a workaround if you go to SAG-AFTRA for actors and models.com to see what reputable agents are. For NYC alone, there are modeling agents for print models, fashion and runway models currently pulling up more than 60 companies, including DNA Models Management, Flaunt Model Management, Inc., and IMG Models. Models.com can locate industry professionals who have been trusted by their clients. Among them are fashion models, models with careers that range from high-end fashion models to top-selling fashion agents, etc. The model industry includes contracts that relate to the relationships for clients overseas, travel, accommodation overseas, working visas, and many other facets. A good agent or manager will have all of this together for you. Daily operations of a true industry pro help talent find the perfect agency or job seamlessly. Why are people using the models.com and SAG-AFTRA website instead of using others' websites and searching online? Models.com and SAG-AFTRA are dedicated to finding the best Model Agency and tools for models and actors. But before you apply to agencies, don't forget the headshot. It is perhaps the most essential tool for an aspiring model. It's the first thing agencies will see on a resume or composite card, and it must be eye-catching and make them cum.
ACTING VS. MODELING
What's the difference between being an Acting Industry v.s. The Modeling Industry?
Have you ever wondered what the difference between being a model and an actor is? Well, there are many differences. For starters, modeling is more of a career choice for people who want to make money by looking good in front of cameras. On the other hand, acting tells stories through words and action. And yes, it does take some acting skills to be successful in the modeling industry too! So if you're reading this post wondering what your next career move should be, just remember that there are no correct answers. We all have different talents so find out how to leverage them to get where you want to go!
Most people don't know that there are actually two differences between the acting industry and the modeling industry. They both can have similar needs, but they are very different careers! One way you can tell them apart is by their roles in society. Actors usually play the role of someone else, while models typically play themselves (or at least they're supposed to). Another critical difference between these two professions is that actors work with directors and producers, whereas models only work with designers and photographers. These days a lot more models are going in for commercials too with actors.
WALKING INTO THE AUDITION ROOM AS AN ACTOR V.S. MODEL.
KEYS TO YOUR SUCCESS IT'S MORE THAN JUST TALENT
Whether you're a female model or male model, or actor, the first step to success is knowing what it takes to succeed. Whether you want to be on magazine covers, billboards, and commercials, or in films and television shows, there's one thing that everyone needs: talent. But having natural talent isn't enough; it doesn't make you stand out from the crowd of models and actors trying to make their way up in this industry. Countless people have great potential but can't break through because they lack specific skills that will take them far beyond just being good at their jobs. So what do those skills consist of? Well, keep reading as we give you five keys to your success as a model/actor!
Before we get into how to go about getting started as an actor/model, let's take a look at some things you should know before diving headfirst into this business:
1) Acting is not always glamorous;
2) The job itself involves more than just standing in front of the camera;
3) Most people don't understand why you just have to be careful.
I'll give you a critical tool now: hire an entertainment lawyer to help you when you're meeting with agents and managers. If you have the means to do that, please do that.
One rule of thumb is if any agency tells on your contract that you get paid about 90 days after a booking, do not sign that contract! Demand that it is only NET 30 that they have to pay you within 30days of completing the job. I fell into that trap, and I didn't know how to negotiate the contract terms. If they refuse to Renegotiate, don't work with them, I don't understand how these regulations aren't regulated, but there's no reason you make $6,000 off of a job, and you see that money in three to four months. Lawyer up and go for NET 30.
My agent at the time told me sometimes they pay early, but they often pay late. This has been going on in the industry for a long time, which screws up a lot of people's careers, and it screwed up mine until I got with a really great agency, and they opened my eyes and explained it's NET 30 days. I figured out a workaround, and I started calling the billing department to see if my check was sent, which they always sent it out within 30 days. My EX agent at the time was just holding out, probably taking care of their bills, then they paid me last. So that's a big thing you now have in your toolbox. In the career course, I have more information like this available.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO BE A FREELANCE MODEL IN NYC?
Then even without representation, you can become the best model in New York. Backstage has been an excellent casting platform for over 60 years and allows artists looking for freelance modeling employment. Developing a remarkable web presence on social media is critical for agent-free careers. Large companies sometimes employ a casting director or photo photographer who contacts agencies. Even offline, it's imperative to build relationships in the absence of agents so that clients will stay in contact even if they don't need any help. New York City is a great city, but it is nevertheless based on a small industry. To start booking jobs, head to actors access and casting networks, as far as modeling, and they do have commercial print, but this is an excellent place for both models and actors to start getting jobs.
I wouldn't even wholeheartedly recommend backstage because backstage has become a little sketch over the years. Anyone can post anything backstage. This is why I suggest actors access and casting networks.
ARE YOU PART OF THE 13% OF WORKING ACTORS & MODELS
When I say working actor, I mean in the industry like Paramount Pictures, Warner Brothers, and modeling for, commercial, and print ads for like Target or fashion labels like Dolce and Gabbana, and things of that nature. That's what I mean! NOT your friend who's doing a low-level job paying like $100 for the shoot. This is a great way to get your feet wet. You can also go to Model Mayhem for stuff like that as a model. However, it's imperative to identify what's the industry and what's not the industry.
A lot of actors fail because they do a lot of off off off broadway stuff that's not even in the industry, and then they think they're working. YOU ARE NOT! THIS IS WHY I'M HERE. My day rate is a minimum of $1000 to $4,000. If you don't know what you are doing, you will find yourself doing off-brand/Industry work getting paid $100 for something with low-level individuals. So knowing things like this is essential.
AVOIDING TYPECASTING AND BEING A ONE-TRICK PONY
This has been my little gift to you about why you should not only be an actor but be a model to diversify your portfolio to give yourself more opportunities to book work so you can have a sustainable, long term career rather than being pigeonholed into one thing you don't really want to do but need the work.
If you can't model, that's fine. You can just be an actor. If you can't act, you should just be a model because there's a thing where they try to hire models to do acting. That goes horribly wrong. So know what you're good at. Improve what you're bad at, and sell yourself the right way. If you found this helpful. I give soo much more in my ACTING & MODELING BUSINESS MASTERCLASS
